WOW!!! Erika, Jennifer, Hala, Nelba, Susan, Evelyn, I can't believe the news I've just received: we will meet f2f in Fukuoka this August! Nina Lyulkun Sun Mar 2, 2008 2:23 pm to WIA Dear Webheads, It seems that I am the last of the awardees who didn't joined and expressed her gratitude to YOU!!! I've just edited my message delivery preferences in this list from Digest into Individual Email. I should keep it as digest while the EVO sessions, you know. I am sorry for the delaying my response to all the warm, kind, cheering words and greetings which have been poured upon the group of winners. Yes, I am also in this lucky list. I'm still unable to believe this. When I received a message from Tom Robb yesterday, I was opening it with the feeling I wasn't in the list. Only you can imagine how happy I was to see my name in it. I got speechless for some time with tears and happiness in my eyes. I'd like to thank you all, dear webheads, and firstly Yadong who brought me here in 2002; and Dafne for constant assistance, and, of course, dear Gladys, who sent her letter of recommendation for me to the Committee. I am very much grateful to everyone: Tere, Barbara, Moira, Nina (Liakos), our fantastic Blogging team I worked with this time, and many many more dear cyber friends and webheads who have become my second close family in this cyber community. I am trying to involve my colleagues from the uni and TESOL-Ukraine to join this community, and really hope after such a success I'll be able to bring more educators from Ukraine here. I am looking forward to seeing all the participants of this Great event in Fukuoka this late summer. With warmest regards and hopes, Hugs, Nina Lyulkun |
Hello, my friend. Thanks for the kind words. I was very, very happy to hear of your WorldCALL 08 scholarship. You richly deserve it, and I'm already looking forward to hearing your impressions of Japan! Again, I can only say that you richly deserve the scholarship. I'm very impressed with your many online projects, particularly ones you've done during the past year. С любовью, Dennis |
Hello Nina I'm thrilled! I'm so happy! I almost can't believe I'm going to visit Japan, attend World CALL and meet so many special people face to face!!! Let's celebrate today!! Thank you all for being part of my life! Warmly!! Erika |
| Congratulations ladies. This is the recognition to your hard work. I hope you can visit Maryhillis. Warm hugs to you all. Horacio. Thank you, Horacio for the lovely words. We hope to meet Mary f2f in japan if a chance. We'll be staying in touch. BIG HUG, Nina |
| Dear Hala, Erika, Evelyn, Nina, Susan, Nelba and Jennifer Kudos to you all for a well-deserved scholarship, for spreading the Webhead word and emphasizing our presence on- and offline! I'm very, very happy for you!!! Webheads rock!!! <clap, clap, clap> I hope that there are Webcast sessions and I'll certainly be there with you! Beijinhos all, Teresa (off to celebrate!) |
Dear Teresa: Yessssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm also in the list. I'm so happy! Thanks, Webheads!!!!!!!!! You've been my inspiration since I joined Baw in 2005 and this is the result. Spread the word, Webheads are everywhere! I cannot stop crying, laughing, jumping, hughing my husband and daughter! Congratulations to Hala, Nina, Erika, Nelba and Jennifer, too. Hugs to all!!!!!!!!! Evelyn |
Hi Evelyn: First of all I'd like to congratulate you and all the winners for your award. As doctor Thomas Robb chairman of the Scholarship Committee said: "We had an extremely difficult time deciding the awardees. So what you won was not just a candy. You won the right to be among a group of highly qualified teachers and practitioners in Computer –Assisted Language Learning from around the world. What you won was the chance to meet f2f a group of webheads who are our old and good web-friends even we had never seen them personally. Ladies like Erika from Brazil, Hala from Sudan, Nina from Ukraine, Susan from Iran, Nelba and Jennifer from Argentina. I am sure you are going to miss Carla Arena, the soul of EVO 2008. As the big ligers of basse-ball, you are going to be the icon of the new generations of teachers, who are going to say to themselves: "If Evelyn did, I shall do". Next August, when you are in Japan, please give a very warm and tight Venezuelan hug to all the participants. Good luck and bye. Horacio. [:-?] Fantastic! Well-deserved and congratulations. Very proud of all of you ! Warm regards, Bee |
I am really proud of you guys! Congratulations :-) I was part of the Scholarship committee, and I can tell you it was a very difficult process with more than 90 applicants from all over the world. However, I have to say that from the beginning and without reading their names (which I found out later in the process), webheads statements of purpose shined with their expertise and involvement in CALL projects. Have a great trip to Japan, don't forget to take tons of pics to share, and as Tere said, if there are online events, let us know. Warm hugs, Daf |
HUrray! Congrats you all. Well done! I am really PROUD of you. I have just "arose" from some complicated weeks to find such great news. This is great! take advantage of this opportunity to spread your outstanding work and Inspire others. WOW! I am really HAPPY for you all. beijinhos. LOADS! Cris |

Good on you, Hala!-- And congrats to Susan Marandi, too. Who are the other Webheads--please say 'hi'--and congratulations to you all! What an honor! --Elizabeth Hanson-Smith |
Dear Elizabeth: I'm another awardee. I'm an ESP teacher at Central University of Venezuela, the largest and oldest university of my country. I work for the School of Education since 1998 and joined the Webheads in 2005; since then I've been promoting and incorporating Web tools into my classes. Last year, thanks to my work and all what I've learned from WIA, I was named member of the Distance Education Committee of the Humanities and Education Faculty. Thank you very much for your kind words and wishes. I am really happy, not only for winning the scholarship to attend such an important event, but also because I'll have the chance of meeting other Webhead friends. I look forward to seeing them there. My warmest regards, Evelyn Izquierdo |
Dear Webheads, First of all I would like to thank this wonderful community for your kind words. This community rocks!! I've learnt so much with you and you've all been an inspiration to continue doing what one really likes. I'm very lucky to have been granted this award but I can assure you that without all of you this could have never been possible. So this award also goes to all of you for being a great example of an excellent community that is making a difference in the world. Kudos to all of us!!!!! Jennifer from Buenos Aires |
Congratulations to the awardees!!!!! I'm sure you will benefit a lot as I did when I myself was selected as an awardee to go to the WorldCALL 2003 in Banff. I learned a lot with all the talks and I really loved meeting all the experts in CALL. :-) Cheers!!!! Cintia Costa Universidade Federal do Pará Belém - Amazon - Brazil What a fantastic way of starting 2008. My heartfelt congratulations to Evelyn, Hala, Erika, Jennifer, Nelba, Susan and Nina (AKA Nagora),for such wonderful news ... wow, to get a scholarship to attend the WorldCALL conference, what an honor and deserved recognition! I am so happy for you and also for Vance, Elizabeth, Dafne, Teresa, Jane, Gladys, Carla and so many other earlier coordinators, moderators and mentors who have dedicated their time and effort to create and consolidate all these wonderful communities of practice, whether they are part of Tesol, Evo, Webheads in Action or the year-round Learning with Computers. I know I am missing many many names, especially in the "younger" generation of creative and hard working colleagues who play an increasing role as co-moderators in all these communities, which in the end, are all in the same group of colleagues who excel at everything they do. May my congratulations go to all of you too. Have a wonderful time, gals, and bring tons of photos and anecdotes for us to enjoy. If I win the lottery before the summer, I will definitely join you in this wonderful webhead reunion in Japan. Carinos a todos, Berta |
My congratulations to all 13 scholarship awardees. I recognized many active Webheads and EVO contributors on the list! Christine Bauer-Ramazani Hi Webehads , Thank you ALL for the congratulations and words of encouragement! Thank you Dennis for the elegant e-card you sent me off list. You know how to treat webheads ladies ;-) I cherish the day when I followed the link on study.com which took me to here! Btw, I love the idea of the badge! Hala ( back to packing ) |
Hi all! I've been missing most of the action in this group, unfortunately... Now I'm slowly trying to get back to work and catch up with the news. And what news!!! I would like to join everybody and congratulate our dear Erika, Evelyn, Hala, Jennifer, Nelba and Susan on their much deserved scholarship - way to go! I'm sure you are all going to have a wonderful time in Japan - meeting Webheads f2f is always a wonderful opportunity to celebrate! Hugs to all, Monica |
CONGRATULATIONS to all :) :) :) What an exciting adventure !! I've just been listening to an interview with Mike Levy on the Worldcall 2008 site, and it seems he has yet to catch up with how our blogging team are turning the order of things upside down (he seems to think that the "north/south" divide is reflected on the web) I would like to share my favourite youtube of the moment - stay with it through to the end. http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=VwrUQfAKbzM I'm looking forward to following your amazing trip (I'm sure to find news somewhere or another in the virtual world) Once more - congratulations to all Elizabeth (in France) |
Dear Webheads: Thank you so much for your lovely messages. This is a moment when words are not suitable to express how I felt yesterday morning when I found that mail saying that I am one of the WorldCALL 2008 Scholarship Awardees! I cried, shouted of happiness, could hardly type or think. That is why I am answering today. I feel more relaxed. I would like to thank : -Dafne who introduced me to Webheads and Internet world. She has been my guiding star! -The Webheads group because I have learned so much about ICTs and working in a group. I think we all share this passion: using the web for a better teaching, better people for the future. -Vance, Doris, Rita, Sasha and all the Writing Matrix project participants because they helped me to get a lot of experience working on the web 2.0. -BaW07 and Baw08 participants and colleagues. Thank you and congrats to the Webheads awardess:Hala, Nina, Erika, Evelyn and Jennifer !!!!! In Argentina, we would say: " ?Arriba Webheads!" I am looking foward to meeting Webheads in Fukuoka. Dear WordCALLers, I just got back from Brazil and had the chance to celebrate with Erika her achievements in true Webhead spirit. I prepared some mojitos to celebrate and my Italian uncle cooked for us! A perfect gathering. I'd like to congratulate all of you for being awarded this scholarship. It represents all the hard work and your CALL for a connected world. You all ROCK! We'll be following you all along. Beijos, Carla Arena |
Congratulations to all of you seven outstanding webheads. Amazing result of your exemplary hard work. I read about thiw wonderful news 12 hours before I was doing a presentation for web 2.0 librarians in Norway (with webhead lurker Niels Damgaard as my host), sharing my narrative on social and collegial learning opportunities in the electronic village online, of course with Webheads as my central case. Your success(es) offered a fine springboard story. Blogged on http://worldofwebheads.blogspot.com yours, Sus |
I'd like to add my heartiest congratulations to the awardees. What an adventure awaits you! I hope someone will start a WorldCALL2008 blog so we can all enjoy the fun vicariously. Congratulatory hugs to all! Nina Liakos (Maryland) |

Thank you Christine, Daf, Elizabeth, Tere, Bee, Maru, Cris, Susana, Cora, Claire, Cintia, Candy, Beyza, Carla, Sus, and all other Webhead friends! I'm really excited about the scholarship to WorldCALL: I'm sure I'll learn so much, and even more important, I'm looking forward to meeting many Webheads and CALLers face-to-face! :-) It's not often that I have a chance to talk with someone who shares my interests and is not thousands of miles away!! ;-) Like the other Webhead awardees, I definitely owe this opportunity to the Webhead community. Thank you all so much; I will try to be a good representative of the Webheads and make you proud of me! :-) Special thanks go to Christine Bauer-Ramazani, who first introduced me to the world of CALL and to the EVO, and then to people like Elizabeth, Daf, Tere, Bee, Vance and so many others, who introduced me to the world of Webheads. I learned so much from the Webheads, and more importantly, I found the most amazing friends here! Thank you everyone! I love you all! Warm wishes from Tehran, Iran, Susan Marandi @>---;- P.S. Way to go, ladies! Congratulations on your scholarship. I'm looking forward to hearing your plans for once you get here: panel discussions, presentations, touring, ..., what have you. If I'm in country in August, I hope to meet you in Fukuoka. Cheers, Paul |
Dear Webheads, I am looking forward to meeting all the wonderful webheads at TESOL. Your energy and commitment is amazing. Also, I would like to congratulate the scholarship awardees for their success. I truly believe each and every webhead that I had the chance to know through their e-mails deserve recognition for their work, energy, and scholarship. Although a silent member, I have been following the group very closely. Being a member and following the on formation exchange definitely had a positive impact in my professional life. I am finalizing my doctoral dissertation -which has nothing to do with technology- nowadays and I am planning to work more on educational technology in language teaching and learning. Thanks to webheads for this change of mind, of course! Cheers! Serpil Sonmez |

Dear ladies,
I love your blog! This "congratulations page reminded me of the excitement I felt when I created a similar page in Dec07 after receiving the European Union international "eLearning Award 2007". This scholarship is a very special honor and distinction for each of you and for all of us Webheads, who are very proud of you all. We will be very well represented by such a fabulous group of Webheads professionals. Congrats once again to you all! Beijinhos, Teresa |
